The Story of Steve’s Poké Bar
Steve Huynh, founder of Steve’s Poké Bar, has a rich and diverse background that inspired his passion for Hawaiian poké. Born in a Malaysian refugee camp during the Vietnam War, Steve spent his childhood split between Vancouver and Honolulu, where he developed a deep love for the local culture and cuisine.
A Love Story and a Dream
Steve’s journey to opening Steve’s Poké Bar began with a love story. He and his wife Camy fell in love in Hawaii in 2010, where Steve introduced Camy to the local lifestyle, including poké. Camy’s transformation from a non-raw fish eater to a poké enthusiast sparked a dream to share authentic Hawaiian poké with Vancouverites.
Preserving Tradition
Before 2016, poké was scarce in Vancouver. Steve’s Poké Bar was born out of a desire to preserve the traditional method of serving authentic Hawaiian poké, while offering customizable toppings for a healthy meal. Steve and Camy’s love for Hawaiian culture drove their mission to spread ALOHA and bring the best poké experiences to their guests.
