In 1995, two Quebec natives brought a taste of Costa Rican inspiration to Nanaimo, opening Mambo Pizza. Their travels had led them to a beloved eatery, Mambo Grill, and they aimed to recreate that magic on Vancouver Island.

The first year was a challenge, and the original owners put the business up for sale. But fate intervened when Mimi Roy and Marc Boudreau, fellow French Canadians and pizza enthusiasts, saw the potential. They took the reins, revamped the concept, and focused on delivery and signature 18” pies.

Under new ownership, Mambo Pizza flourished. Sales doubled within a year, and the restaurant became a Nanaimo staple. The secret?
