In 1961, Larry Campbell and Jack Clarke opened Jack’s Drive-In, unaware that their small ice cream and burger stand would become a local legend. The duo reunited after a chance meeting on their honeymoons and decided to capitalize on the demand for ice cream treats.
With a mere $700, they purchased the land and built the original structure themselves. The unique roofline was designed to attract attention, and the drive-in quickly became a hit with locals and visitors alike. Uniformed carhops served handmade burgers and fresh-cut fries, while kids flocked to the take-out windows for jumbo soft ice cream cones.
Over the years, Jack’s has remained a beloved institution, with only a few changes to the original building. It has been operated by several families, including the Hamiltons, Anderson, and Cox families, each contributing to its growth and reputation. In 2008, Mandy O’Donnell and her husband Steven Kenworthy took the reins, continuing the tradition of serving quality food and creating lasting memories.
